Facebook privacy problems

Facebook privacy settings. As many of you know I have been very hesitant in using Facebook because of privacy issues and Facebook policies on selling personally identifiable information. Last month I started using aliases to test the Facebook platform and to write a Facebook application. I was horrified to learn what information was accessible to me once a user clicks "Allow". The video below shows how, when you use these applications they can gather information about your friends even if your friends have strict privacy settings. Last month I noticed two new privacy settings. "Show my friends list" and "Tags in videos and photos". These new settings claim to stop friends seeing other friends and stop friends seeing your tag in photos. After playing with these settings I noticed all of my friends were still in the suggestion box for other friends to see and my tags are still shown on photos!!!!!! I wrote to Patrick at Facebook. Patrick asked me to send hi...

How to contact Facebook

If you are having trouble finding how to contact Facebook, dont blame yourself. It took me a while to find after going round in circles. Login to Facebook and do the following. 1. In the top menu click Help Centre 2. Click the Privacy link 3. Scroll to the bottom and click Bugs and known problems 4. Scroll to the bottom and click I would like to report a bug with my updated privacy settings. 5. Click the Here link 6. Click the link My updated privacy settings are not working correctly. 7. Click the Here link You should now be at the following page http://www.facebook.com/help/?page=1000#!/help/contact.php?show_form=updated_privacy_bug There may be other ways to get to this form but this was the first way I found. I received a useless response within 12 hours. Good luck!

IPhone not listed in ITunes (iTunesDB corrupt)

So, you plugged the IPhone in and for some reason it’s not showing up in ITunes. You can tell that the computer has recognised a USB device because you can see the drive in File explorer. If you have a Jailbroken phone the thought of having to restore with ITunes sux. It would take hours to put all of your CYDIA apps back on, sort your icons and generally setup the phone so you can use it again. The solution is to rename the iTunes_Control folder to something else. On my IPhone, it’s located at /var/mobile/Media/ . Then load up ITunes and it will recognise it as a new device. Make sure NOT to restore when prompted. I use iPhoneBrowser to browse the operating system of my phone. It can be found here. http://code.google.com/p/iphonebrowser/downloads/list

Remove windows 7 from boot list

Most people will point you to the boot.ini however in Vista this file does not exists. The easiest way is to: In the start menu type msconfig and hit enter Navigate to the boot tab. Select the OS you would like to boot and set it as the default. You can delete the windows 7 OS now if you want.

Plasma aspect ratio problem fixed

There are a number of cheap plasma tv’s hitting the market that have a native resolution of 1024x768 . This resolution indicates it has an aspect ratio of 4:3 however the screen is widescreen 16:9. What is going on is they have used non square pixels! I plugged my computer in to the screen and set the resolution on my computer to 1024x768 knowing that was the resolution of the screen. Everything appeared stretched!. The first thing I did was start fiddling with the resolution on my vista box but after a few minutes realised that no resolution would look as crisp as 1024x768 because this is the TV’s native resolution. (hmmmm) After much searching for a way to tell vista that the pixel aspect ratio was not 1:1 I found the solution. (Sorta) If I set the computer to 1280x720 the tv “somehow” knows what you are trying to do and manages to chop and stretch the picture to hit the pixels on the screen perfectly just like 1024x768. This is not the perfect solution because you are still relying ...

Disable ClearType font smoothing in Vista

Vista fonts fuzzy blurry unclear! On all of my Vista installs I notice after about 2 hours of using them that I get a headache. I finally worked out it was the new way vista smoothes out fonts. Using the GUI to turn this feature off didn’t work on any of my computers so I found this registry hack. 1. Open Registry Editor 2. Navigate through HKEY_CURRENT_USER, Control Panel and Desktop. 3. Set FontSmoothingType to 1. 4. Set FontSmoothing to 1. 5. Reboot.
