Pedestrian Road Rules
I'm in in the city now and have always crossed the road when the traffic light was green irrespective of the colour of the little man. I started to think, maybe this is against the law, so I did some research. I know that when I was a boy there were no little green men so you crossed when the light was green and cars, just like today must give way unless they have a green arrow. http://www.lawhandbook.sa.gov.au/ch10s09s07.php http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/sa/consol_reg/arr210/s231.html Yep.... They made it a law. If you have at least one protruding limb that could press the button then it is against the law not to wait for the little green man. If you want to see a copy of the traffic act, here it is http://www.legislation.sa.gov.au/LZ/C/A/ROAD%20TRAFFIC%20ACT%201961.aspx and the Road rules http://www.legislation.sa.gov.au/LZ/C/R/AUSTRALIAN%20ROAD%20RULES/CURRENT/1999.219.UN.PDF
